More On Job’s

February 16, 2010

Thought I would write a little more on Jobs. Since most of us have searched the job market at some time or another, we know how tough it is just to get a foot in the door. Have you ever thought about working for the US Government? There are a lot of jobs out there with the Government if you know where to look! I know of two such places that produces good results. No matter if you are a Military Retiree or a College Grad just finishing school. Our government has intern programs available in many interesting fields and many jobs open for experienced personnel.

Applying for and getting selected for a job with the Government is not as difficult as some may think.  First and foremost is a good resume stating your experience? This site CPOL even offers a resume builder. This site USAJOBS is an excellent place to look and is one of the official sites for Government jobs. If you already have your resume prepared, you can just cut and paste and fill in the other required information. Important is a good e-mail address and contact phone number. Do be aware that the competition is really tough.  After posting your resume, you can search the job listings that are available and when you find what you are looking for, you can self nominate for the job. The website provides a section called answers that will show what jobs you have applied for and the ones you are referred to the hiring authority.

Should you get a referral, it does not stop there, as I said the competition is really tough. Just a few days ago, as an example for you this is the process. I received 53 resumes for review and out of those 53, I was required to grade and select the 5 most qualified by resume preparation and experience. The way it works is the hiring authority will select a hiring and evaluation board, maybe three employees within the organization will do the initial selection of the top 5 after all scores are compiled. Those 5 selectees will be notified and scheduled an interview; interviews are primarily phone interviews and will consist of maybe 3 personnel asking you questions by way of a conference call. After all selectees have been interviewed, they will make a selection for the position and you will receive a job offer from the servicing Civilian Personnel Center for that region.

Guys and Gals, the process is somewhat long and drawn out but well worth the effort in the long term. I am one of the people that went through that process and will never regret doing that. I am including the links to the two best sites that are there for your use. Take a look; I think you will be amazed at what you will find.

GOOD HUNTING

17I was asked to pass this on, and I will gladly do so. Will you??? 16The only thing harder than being a Soldier....Is loving one. 15....to be forgiving when someone says how hard it is to have a new baby in the house. 14....to just walk away when someone says they only get two weeks of vacation a year. 13....to be civil to people who complain about their jobs. 12....to remain calm when his daughter complains about having to walk the dog. 11....to control his frustration when a colleague gripes about his coffee being cold. 9....to keep from laughing when anxious parents say they're afraid to send their kids off to summer camp.
